Municipality protected Historical Piri Reis Fountain which met the water needs of Ottoman fleet for many years on Çanakkale İzmir Highway. Çanakkale Province General Assembly Culture and Social Services Commission Chairman Mustafa Menteşe said: "We learned the neglected situation of Piri Reis Fountain from press publications. We began a study to restore the fountain as a commission. We visited our mayor and forwarded this stuation in this context. First the front and back of the fountain was cleaned. Than the waterline was repaired and the water flow was achieved. Water is not drikable now, but studies for drinkable water continue." The regulations around the fountain still continue.
