HISTORY

Olive oil is the traditional cooking medium of the Mediterranean and is used as butter and oil are used in more northerly countries. Do not just use virgin olive oil for dressing salads. Think about using it to finish soups, vegetables, mashed potatoes or grilled fish. Experiment with pot-roasts, baked breads, cookies and cakes or serve in the Mediterranean manner at the beginning of a meal as a dip for bread and raw vegetables.

As you know, Olive has been symbolized the peace over the past centuries, and taken place also in Holy books. In Canakkale, Mount Ida is the place of which to pulsate olive and olive oils. Through out the long years mankind has understood how these products are important and healthy for human health. In our region, we use olive and olive oils for salads, main courses and also for unforgettable breakfast as Homeros told in Illiada Legend.

OLIVE AND OLIVE OIL PRODUCTION IN CANAKKALE

Çanakkale is located in the neighborhood area of important olive production regions of Turkey. Although Only 8 per cent of the whole agriculture areas of Çanakkale is covered by olive trees, Çanakkale meets 6 per cent of total olive production of Turkey by itself. The Olive groves appear densely in the Aegean coast of Ayvacık and Ezine counties and low inshores and then they keep spreading in both sides of Dardanelles strait till the entry of Marmara Sea and in low valleys which are protected from northern winds. While the huge amount of the olives produced in Çanakkale is used for olive oil production, the small amount that is left is used to meet local olive demand. Besides its several benefits for the region, It is a big employment opportunity for the inhabitants of the region.
